WINTER 2023 CO-OP: Lead Peer Success Mentor

About the job:

The Co-op student will help lead a team of part-time student peer success mentors responsible for assisting newly accepted CBU students with the following:

  • Navigate the unfamiliar admissions process for post-secondary education
  • Support the transition of new students in collaboration with Recruitment and Admissions at CBU
  • Help students schedule advising appointments and access advising follow-up registration support
  • Host registration support sessions
  • Greet incoming students and keep appointments operating smoothly
  • Maintain ongoing communication with students, academic advisors, and university faculty and staff
  • Teach students how to understand the timetable to create a class schedule
  • Support students once admitted on what to expect in their program and be available to answer inquiries
  • Teach students to navigate the CBU website, access their CBU email, access their student account, and complete their registration
  • Answer phone, email, and virtual inquiries
  • Complete various organizational tasks
  • Connect students to Academic Success Coaches and help students navigate student support resources at CBU, including specialized services
    for students with disabilities, students of African Nova Scotian and Canadian descent, and indigenous populations.
  • Provide Peer Mentorship through events, workshops, communication platforms, and ongoing outreach

Qualifications:

  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new software
  • Ability to communicate professionally, in person, as well as via telephone, email and virtually
  • Able to navigate student inquiries and concerns tactfully and while utilizing sound judgement
  • Experience work as a contributing team member in fast-paced customer service environments
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Leadership skills-experience leading both individuals and groups
  • Organized with excellent time management skills

Eligibility:

This is a Co-op Position, therefore, students must be enrolled in Co-op.
