Affordable New Staff Accommodation

Our 18-bed staff house has 9 bathrooms, 5 kitchens, 4 laundry rooms, tons of parking, and is near
Salt Spring’s main bus route and major amenities. With new appliances, efficient heating, and air
conditioning, it’s a spacious and comfortable retreat that’s full of natural light yet only a
10-15-minute walk, or 8-minute bike ride, to the hotel.

In the heart of Ganges village, you’ll be able to easily reach major grocery stores, nearby coffee
shops; Switchboard Cafe, Salt Spring Coffee, TJ Beans, and popular restaurants; Uptown Pizza,
Moby’s Pub, and Salt Spring Wild Cider. Enjoy the Saturday Market, the disc golf park, shops, and
recreation facilities all within a short walk.

It’s the Island Life

Salt Spring Island is located between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island. With a
resident population of approximately 11,000 people, the island has grown to be known as an artistic
mecca. Art gallery tours and visits to the local wineries are very popular, as are visits to
various other artisans, organic farms, and excellent food producers. The open-air Saturday market
is a lively spot for purchasing fresh organic produce, local works of art, natural cosmetics, or
just enjoying an al fresco meal in the park. There is an abundance of natural beauty throughout the
island with breath-taking panoramas from many vantage points along with many incredible walking,
trekking, kayaking, and cycling opportunities.

Food and beverage server

As part of the Dining Team, you will provide table service, run food, make beverages and ensure the
restaurant is properly set, clean and operating smoothly while maintaining the highest level of
customer service and guest satisfaction.

Duties

  • Setting, preparing, and cleaning the dining rooms for subsequent shifts Delivering morning muffins
    to rooms
  • Taking food orders, discussing menu items, including wines and beverage pairings
  • Running food and beverages to tables Preparing guest bills and process payments Clearing and
    cleaning tables
  • Assisting the Dining Manager in any way possible

Qualifications

  • A general knowledge of food, wine, beer and spirits
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment Able to work cooperatively and
    collaboratively with the culinary team Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs/13.6 kgs
  • An appreciation for detail and customer service
  • Professional and positive attitude in every aspect of the position Consistent punctuality and
    dedication
  • A calm, polite and composed demeanour
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Must have valid Serving It Right certificate

Laundry and Room Attendant

As part of the Housekeeping Team, you will clean toilets, sinks, and showers, make beds, vacuum
carpets as well as washing and folding laundry while maintaining the highest level of customer
service and guest satisfaction.

Duties

  • Be one of the front line contacts for guests requiring assistance Provide a friendly and
    professional demeanour to our guests
  • Maintain cleanliness of all guest rooms and public spaces within the hotel Keep work area clean,
    tidy and fully stocked
  • Complete all tasks in a timely manner
  • Handle cash and gratuities with accuracy, honesty and discretion

Qualifications

  • A passion for hospitality and providing the perfect guest experience
  • Exemplary customer service skills and a willingness to exceed guest expectations Ability to
    multitask in a busy environment
  • Resourcefulness and creative problem solving skills Excellent interpersonal and verbal

Bell/Houseperson

As part of the Reception Team, you will be responsible for welcoming all guests to the property and
assisting with operations as needed. You will primarily be operating shuttles for arrivals and
departures, giving tours of the property, and settling guests in their rooms.

Duties

  • Familiarity with the history of the property, and providing basic tours Assisting with luggage
    during check-in and check-out procedures Providing shuttle service for arrivals and departures
  • Cleaning, fuelling, and minor detailing on guest vans Providing concierge assistance
  • Providing assistance to the Front Desk with answering the telephone and emails Performing closing
    shifts at the Front Desk as required
  • Providing assistance with Events as required Grooming gravel pathways
  • Raking and leaf-blowing branches and leaves from parking lots, and entrances Removing cobwebs from
    lighting, doorways, and exteriors
  • Setting up fireplaces and stocking kindling, paper, and extra wood

Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license and current abstract Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
  • Effective communication skills Customer service experience Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    Able to work in a team environment
  • Problem-solving skills and resourcefulness Ability to think on your feet
  • Effective at giving directions
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment

Gardens/Groundsperson

As part of the Reception Team, you will be responsible for ensuring all grounds are kept in a clean
and orderly fashion in all areas and departments.

Duties

  • Collecting all garbage, recycling, and bottles sorting appropriately Maintaining the sorting area
    and returning bottles for refund Making sure all garbage bins are prepared for pick up each week
    Preparing wood for fireplaces in guest rooms and restocking supplies Cleaning fireplaces in guest
    rooms as needed
  • Cleaning guest room decks, patios, and entrances with a leaf blower, as needed Raking and
    leaf-blowing all parking lots, entrances, and pathways
  • Outdoor cleaning of the windows at the Manor House and Reception office Removing cobwebs from all
    lighting, doorways, and exteriors
  • Monitoring and cleaning eavestroughs as required

Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license and current abstract Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs/13.6 kgs
    Experience using an axe to split and chop wood Experience with a leaf blower
  • Able to work in a team environment Comfortable using and working on a ladder Comfortable working
    in an outdoor environment

Front Desk Associate

As part of the Reception Team, you will be responsible for answering all in-coming telephone calls,
responding to emails, maintaining communication between departments, checking guests in and out,
making dining reservations and spa appointments, and processing purchases.

Duties

  • Opening the Reception Office and preparing information for all departments Checking for voice
    messages and returning calls
  • Posting room charges and balancing various income reports Preparing check-out invoices
  • Responding to all emails and process incoming reservations Answering all incoming calls and
    transfer to appropriate departments Preparing for daily check-ins
  • Preparing the Occupancy Report along with any personalized signage for guests Balancing the day’s
    incoming cash and credit cards

Qualifications

  • A general knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with operating and processing Moneris purchases and refunds Clear communications skills
    and telephone manner
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work independently on opening and closing shifts Able to operate with a team spirit
