What is Start Proud:
Start Proud aims to connect LGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the
development of LGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of
those in the community.
We facilitate the professional development of LGBTQ+ students as they transition from
school to career in order to build a national network within the community. Our vision is
to empower members of the LGBTQ+ community to be Canada’s leaders of tomorrow;
where all institutions embrace inclusiveness within the workplace and diversity within
the workforce.
About the Role:
As the Associate, Marketing & Web you are responsible for developing marketing content
for Start Proud initiatives including conferences, networking events, etc. This will include
drafting social media content, newsletters and maintaining the website to ensure it’s
current and up to date
In this role you will:
● Maintain and update WordPress based websites according to business
requirements
● Follow change management and brand guidelines to ensure we maintain
consistency in our public facing websites.
● Write copy for all Social Media channels that Start Proud has a presence on. This
involves understanding our audiences on each medium and tailoring your writing
accordingly.
● Triage any incoming communication from our social media channels to ensure
they are responded to by the appropriate person.
● Be the initial point of contact for media and press inquiries about our events.
● Work with Vice Presidents to prepare press releases and talking points for major
initiatives during the year.
● Monitor major Canadian publications for mentions of Start Proud or other issues
and organizations of significance to the LGBTQ+ community.
● Develop newsletter campaigns that promote Start Proud’s events and draw in
attendance.
● Develop a content strategy to increase the community around our newsletters
that drives engagement.
● Create graphics that promote the conferences through Social Media, Newsletter
Campaigns, and other channels.
Commitment
● ~10-15 hours per week.
● Mandatory attendance at quarterly management meetings
● Mandatory attendance at Start Proud events and initiatives throughout the year
