Nova Scotia Environment’s Covid 19 Pandemic response is to protect human health through regulatory excellence and education. In support of the Provincial COVID-19 response, our department has been tasked with providing a presence at all provincial points of entry to supply the travelling public with timely and accurate information based on the most current requirements outlined under the Public Health Orders.

About Our Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Department of Environment (NSE) is tasked with helping keeping Nova Scotians’ safe and healthy by adding support various provincial points of entry. This work is an important part of Nova Scotia’s response to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic. In this position, you will be responsible for interacting with all travellers who enter the province, confirming basic personal information according to public health protocols. You will be checking with visitors by collecting, tracking and protecting personal information related to their travel plans, where they have travelled from, and whether they will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. You will also be responsible for sharing information with travellers related to the Nova Scotia Health Protection Act Order and providing guidance on where to get more assistance throughout their trip (i.e. 811 telephone line, novascotia.ca)

As a Student Border Liaison, your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Verbally communicate information to travellers on the self isolation requirement and provide contact information for further inquiries;
Provide information sheets outlining key Health Protection Act Order measures and restrictions;
Identify and separate vehicles originating from outside the Atlantic bubble;
Direct traffic to an identified screening area;
Collect self declaration forms and place in secure area;
Maintain a daily tally of outside Atlantic Bubble travellers;
Be prepared to work outside in various weather conditions.

About You

To be considered for the student border liaison opportunity, you are currently a full-time University or Community College student returning to school in the fall or next applicable semester. You also have experience working in customer service.

In addition, you demonstrate:

Strong organizational skills;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Problem solving skills;
Team player skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Shift start times and durations can vary by assignment and are subject to change. With a few exceptions, there are typically 3-shifts per day (operating 7-days a week), at various points of entry that are 7-8 hours in duration, between the hours of 5 am and 3am. Specific shift details would be provided at time of assignment.

Personal protection equipment will be provided.

These student positions will be required into the fall with an anticipated end date of October 30, 2020.

Pay Grade: HOURLY
Salary Range: $16.18 – $26.37 Hourly
