About Our Opportunity

We are looking for University or College students to assist with projects related to forestry activities.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Forest Resource Worker you will be involved primarily in forest research and related field activities in one or more of these areas: (i) forest and landscape ecology, (ii) soils and site productivity, (iii) tree improvement, and (iv) silviculture and timber management.

You will provide timely, efficient, and accurate information and support to existing staff on a variety of natural resource matters. Some independent field work and office work will be required.

You will work as part of a passionate team of resource professionals and technicians working throughout the Province, based out of Truro. The work may include extended overnight stays away from the home office.

The student positions will report to Forestry Division in Truro where the focus is forest research across the Province.

Qualifications and Experience

You must be a full-time university or college student in the field of natural resource management returning to school in the fall (or in the next applicable semester for the education program).

You demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills and problem-solving ability.  You are also capable of conducting field work both independently and as part of a team. You will be familiar with using a personal computer with standard office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, and email.

Knowledge or experience with Arcview/ArcMap, hand-held data collectors, and the ability to navigate using GPS and compass are an asset.  A valid driver’s license is required.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Combination of office and field work.

Please note there are currently 10 positions available in Truro.

Employees are expected to provide their own safety boots.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY

Salary Range:  $16.50 – $26.90 Bi-Weekly
