Building and maintaining our provincial infrastructure is no small job. We’re recruiting for summer students to help our province achieve big things!

At the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR), we manage 23,000 kilometres of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges across Nova Scotia. We also maintain 2,400 buildings and infrastructure assets across a wide range of clients. We maintain and support various government buildings including museums, political core buildings, office buildings, and justice centres.

About Our Opportunity

As the Clerical student, you will gain practical administrative experience, and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government.

You might have an opportunity to assist staff with a wide range of administrative duties that will contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Divisions by:

  • Assisting with research and analysis;
  • Supporting staff with their daily work;
  • Database entry and support; and
  • Organizing, filing, and preparing documents.

There will be opportunities for you to participate in and collaborate with various staff on special projects or assignments; helping you further enhance and develop your skills.

About You

You must be currently enrolled as a student and returning to school in the fall (or in the next applicable semester for the education program).  This opportunity is a perfect fit for students enrolled in a business administration or commerce program.

As the ideal candidate you:

  • are efficient with computers including office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • are organized and able to prioritize your work; and
  • demonstrate excellent communication skills and work well in both independent and team-based work environments.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Other Considerations

Some travel may be required, as such, you must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable motor vehicle for some of these positions.

These seven (7) positions will be based out of the Johnston Building at 1672 Granville Street, Halifax.

These positions have an anticipated end date of August 28, 2020.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

Salary Range:  $16.18 – $26.37 Hourly
