Summary of Responsibilities

CSAP invites interested candidates to apply for the temporary position of Summer Literacy Camp Leader. We encourage qualified individuals who are African-Neo-Scotians, members of visible minorities, women (for positions where they are traditionally underrepresented), persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples or members of the LGBTQ+ community to apply. Tasks and responsibilities:

The person holding the position of Summer Literacy Camp Leader leads recreational programs for participants in the first levels of elementary school. She supervises the summer camp counsellors on site and is supposed to be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the camp. She is the preferred interlocutor for families who have questions or concerns. She is responsible for communicating with parents/guardians before the camp start date, in order to provide them with the necessary details, and during the summer camp. She designs activities as part of a planned recreation program, with the support of camp counsellors. It may be necessary to provide disability supports in the design of a particular program.Among his other responsibilities, this person welcomes parents and participants, directs leisure activities, guarantees the safety and fun of participants, organizes equipment and supplies, prepares activities, distributes and collects authorization certificates for outings, organizes outings and special events, participates in staff meetings and provides assistance and support to the Head of Education during literacy instruction. She is also responsible for organizing the purchase of snacks.

The person must complete specialized training on recreation before the start date of the camp. She will also benefit from other training as part of her job.

Education and experience

  • At least one season/summer of work or volunteer experience with children in leisure time OR equivalent experience (such as working with children in a school setting)
  • Proven program leadership skills
  • Proven conflict resolution skills
  • A good understanding and knowledge of children’s development
  • Having previous work experience with persons with disabilities will be considered an asset

Technical or job-specific knowledge, skills and training

  • Having a current certificate in First Aid and CPR Level C will be considered an asset (may be offered)
  • Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check

Security Clearance: The applicant may be asked to undergo a job security check.

WORK SCHEDULE: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week. The applicant must be willing to have a flexible work schedule if the job requires it.

SALARY: non-unionized employee, $21/hour (plus 4% paid leave)
