Employment Term: Full Time, Summer Position

Salary: $13 per hour plus vacation pay

The Ross Creek Centre for the Arts is looking for a coop student to fill its summer position of Assistant Chef. This person will work closely with our main chef and our gardener.

Job Description

Ross Creek believes in providing locally produced, high quality, broad appeal food. We have a seasonal menu, which takes advantage of our substantial organic gardens, and we work with local suppliers whenever possible to provide excellent nutrition, taste, and education about healthy and delicious local food. We are looking for summer chef who is dynamic, interested in using local produce (when possible and feasible), loves being part of a team and working with volunteers. The successful chef must have reliable transportation, care about food, work well with people and be extremely clean and organized. Help create the magic!

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Accomplish the preparation and serving of daily meals and snacks for 40-100 people depending on the program, including research into and catering to dietary limitations and allergies whenever needed
  • Ensure that all kitchen and food service areas meet and or exceed the standards set out by Ross Creek and the Food Safety Section of the Department of Agriculture, ensuring all those under supervision do the same
  • Supervise set up and clean up dining hall before and after each meal during the shift
  • Supervise the cleanliness and washing of dishes and kitchen daily
  • Adapt and organize the summer menu, according to clientele, and numbers
  • Prepare Two Planks and a Passion Picnics as applicable
  • Supervise volunteers in a nurturing and teaching environment

Requirements:

  • Criminal Background checks
  • Food handlers safety certificate
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen or in making food for the public

Note: Must have own transportation, Ross Creek Centre is not on a public bus route
