Job Title: Food Service Assistant
Reports to: Food Service Manager
Rate of Pay: $84.32/ per camp day
Bonus: $300.00 on completion of contract.
Date of Employment: May 21 – August 24, 2023
Deadline: March 30th

PURPOSE
To provide necessary assistance to the Food Service Manager on a daily basis in accordance to
the Camp Tidnish and Easter Seals Nova Scotia policies and procedures

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Must be a high school graduate
• Must have completed or be willing to complete Food Safety Certification
• Previous experience working in a busy kitchen and working or volunteering with persons
with disabilities is considered an asset, though not a requirement.
• Familiarity with special diets (pureed, diabetic, gluten free etc.) considered an asset

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must possess strong initiative and organizational skills
• Must be able to work in a busy atmosphere
• Must be willing to adjust and adhere to camp policies, procedures, and program
• Must be a team player
• Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Under the direction supervision of the Food Service Manager (But under the overall
supervision of the Camp Director) the Food Service Assistant will:
• Be responsible to take part in all recommended training sessions
• Be responsible for assisting the Food Service Managers in meal and snack preparations
• Respect mealtimes as closely as possible in order to compliment medication schedules
and to allow for effective program delivery
• Be responsible, along with the Food Service Manager, to maintain a high standard of
cleanliness in all areas of the kitchen and dining hall
• Be responsible for washing all dishes, pots, serving trays, utensils, etc., and ensuring
they meet sanitary health codes under the direction of the Food Service Manager
• Be responsible to ensure ALL garbage is removed from the kitchen and food storage
room after every meal
• Be responsible for damp mopping the kitchen floor after every meal and mop every
night in partnership with the Food Service Manager
• Be responsible for preparing the dishes for the setting of tables one half hour before all
meals as defined by the Food Service manager
• Be responsible, with the Food Service Manager for cleaning the kitchen thoroughly
(including ovens, refrigerators, walls, dishwasher, etc.) on the last night of each session;
• Be responsible for gathering dishcloths and kitchen linen every evening
• Be responsible to continually assist direct care staff (Counselling team) in monitoring the
health and welfare of campers in all aspects
• Be responsible to keep a regular inventory of cleaning supplies, and inform Food Service
Manager if orders are required
• Be responsible to participate in camper related activities when primary duties are
completed
• Monitor all temperatures of food and food service equipment (Friedges, heaters et al)
• Other duties as required.
*Room and board included in pay.
Camp Tidnish operates from May 14 – August 30, 2023. During this time, the staff is required
to live on site during camp sessions and to be on call as required to provide effective support
for our campers. Hours of work are directly related to a typical camp day (7 a.m. – 10 p.m.) plus
any additional hours required fulfilling the duties associated with the position.
Easter Seals Nova Scotia requires all employees, volunteers, and participants to be fully
vaccinated against Covid-19.

COVID POLICY:
Effective October 1, 2021, full 2-dose vaccinations will be mandatory for all staff, clients,
program participants and volunteers directly associated with program delivery through Easter
Seals Nova Scotia. Proof of vaccination will be required. Those who cannot to be vaccinated for
medical, religious, or cultural reasons must be tested for Co-Vid twice a week through our
Workplace Screening Program.
