Summer 2021: Nursing Student/Resident Support Worker

Description
Upon successful completion of onsite clinical training, the RN Student/Resident Support Worker (RSW), under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, assumes responsibility for the provision of personal care for residents based on their individual care plans.
Responsibilities
The RN Student/RSW is also responsible for participating in recreational activities and cross training to assist in enriched housing as needed in order to fulfil the required responsibilities.
The RN Student/RSW is responsible to ensure residents are provided care in a clean and safe environment while allowing residents to exercise their greatest degree of independence.
The incumbent is required to maintain a high skill level through participation in training and continued competencies as outlined by the Glen Haven Manor and CUPE.
This position may require shift work.
The successful candidate must be willing to take further training as deemed necessary to fulfil the job requirements.
The RN Student/RSW exhibits sound judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of Glen Haven Manor.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a RN or LPN nursing program and have completed your first year of schooling, preference will be given to persons with Alzheimer’s Training and Palliative Care Training.

The RN Student/RSW requires excellent assessment skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff with a pleasant and cooperative attitude, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth.
The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams within their assigned areas, as well the ability to adapt and understand patients/residents needs, assisting them in meeting their fullest physical and emotional potential.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as moving and mobilizing patients; varying workloads, exposure; dealing with stressful situations relating to agitated, confused, aggressive, or hostile behaviour of patients/residents.
The successful candidate will demonstrate regular attendance in current and previous employment.
The ability to make critical decisions in a timely fashion is essential.
The incumbent requires organizational skills and the ability to prioritize their own work.
Ability to work a variety of shifts as well as be available for call-in
Provide all activities of daily living for the residents
Salary
As per the CUPE Collective Agreement ($17.22/hr plus shift\weekend premiums)
