Science Atlantic is an association for post-secondary faculty, researchers, and students in Atlantic Canada. Priorities of our five-year strategic plan ( include member engagement, developing partnerships, and increasing communications.
COVID-19 provides an opportunity to focus on the virtual aspects of our interprovincial organization. Our goal this summer is to research and develop services that will have a long-term impact on online member communication and connection. We have several initiatives planned, including a major overhaul of our website, developing member engagement surveys and outreach, and establishing new committees for members to explore areas of common interest.
We are looking for an internet-savvy, online community-friendly co-op student with an interest in researching and developing supports for the post-secondary science community. As part of a team with the Jr. Web Developer, Membership Support Officer, and Executive Director, the successful student will be able to develop a personally tailored placement that will provide relevant experience as well as have a meaningful impact on the organization.
Responsibilities will include 3-5 of the following (based on the student’s interest and abilities):
• Developing member and audience personas
• Drafting member surveys including metrics to identify priorities
• Collating/analyzing information and feedback gathered
• Organizing online meetings and focus groups
• Evaluating potential online community/virtual team software for members (to support member communication, file sharing, etc.)
• Updating/transferring content to new website, with an emphasis on improving accessibility
• Developing automated email pipelines for timely information sharing
• Updating orientation and resource materials for members
Required Competencies:
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Interest/familiarity with online community engagement
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Tech-savvy and able to learn new software
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Google docs
• Responsible and able to work independently (100% telework during stay at home order)
• Asset: Interest in member-based, nonprofit organizations
• Asset: Familiarity with WordPress or other content management system; Adobe Suite

• Develop written materials such as web content, newsletter content, member and volunteer information packages
• Improve accessibility of our website
Program of Study: Arts, Business, Commerce, Marketing, Public Relations, Psychology, Web Development
Education Level: Minimum one year of post-secondary study completed
Salary: $15.60/hour, 30-35 hours/week (negotiable)
