Communications Co-op Student – Parks Canada Cape Breton Field Unit

Salary : between $16,99 and $25,52 depending on education and experience

Dates : May to August 2024, 37.5 hours/week, approximately 16 weeks

Location : Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. Hybrid work is possible with a minimum of 2 days in the office a week. Accommodations are not provided.

 

Job Description :

Interested in working in some of the most stunning natural and cultural environments in the

on a variety of communication tools? Be part of Parks Canada’s Cape Breton Field Unit and join

our small, dynamic communications and marketing team!

 

You will support various promotions, outreach, media and communications activities at the

Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site and

Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We cover everything from moose to airplanes and time

travel to campgrounds, so we need someone who is able to adapt easily to different audiences.

We’re looking for someone with a keen graphic design eye, superior written and verbal

communication skills, and with the ability to coordinate events.

Duties :

• Writing and editing communications materials including news releases, media requests, speeches and articles for various audiences;

• Creating promotional materials including brochures, newsletters, posters and creative social media and web content for various audiences;

• Supporting traditional and travel media visits, outreach events and promotional activitiesat our special places on Cape Breton Island;

• Conducting media monitoring summaries and evaluations to demonstrate the value of media relations activities.

 

Qualifications:

• Ability to work with the public

• Ability to keep accurate records

• Ability to organize events

• Superior writing skills

• Knowledge of social media

• Knowledge of marketing trends and campaign development

• Knowledge of public relations principles

• English essential. Knowledge of French and/or Mi’kmaw an asset.
