We currently have an opportunity for a highly motivated Capital Project Manager to join our team in Indian Brook, NS.

The Sipekne’katik Band, one of 13 Mi’kmaq Communities in Nova Scotia, is full of exciting growth opportunities, and we are always looking form bright new talent to join our team!  Sipekne’katik First Nation is a vibrant, growing, and close-knit community of 2588 band members with approximately 1244 members living on reserve.  Indian Brook is located in East Hants (near Shubenacadie) and is conveniently located a short distance of 68 km from Halifax and 28.8 km southwest of Truro, Nova Scotia

General Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Operations this position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Sipekne’katik’s capital projects such as the Rapid Housing Initiative Project that was recently awarded to the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of Sipekne’katik capital projects, in particular the Rapid Housing Initiative Project, recently awarded to the community.
  • Lead and assemble project team meetings for duration of project.
  • Review scope of work changes with stakeholders.
  • Monitor all aspects of contract deliverables with vendors and management, including booking meetings and keeping minutes.
  • Prepare and Report project schedule and cost forecasts to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and other contract documents for compliance, intent and completeness
  • Ensure that lead times for construction products and owner supplied equipment is ordered on time to meet schedules. (Projects include Water Treatment upgrades, housing units, and infrastructure)
  • Ensure that all inspections and testing of construction components are performed throughout project.
  • Review and approve project related, invoices, monthly progress claims and equipment invoice payments. Return to sender when revisions are required.
  • Obtain all Close Out documents and reporting requirements including warranties, maintenance manuals.
  • Obtain and issue final area certifications for CMHC.
  • Schedule and coordinate year-end warranty inspection for construction projects. Turnover to the Operations and Maintenance and Housing Departments
  • Assist in development of an annual Capital Plan.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Education:

  • 5 years of project management experience.
  • 2 years Construction knowledge or experience with strong project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and understanding contracts.
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction life cycle.
  • Ability to understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous and/or Mi’kmaq communities/organizations or willingness and interest to learn.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle with automobile insurance.
  • A criminal records check is required. Having a criminal record is not a determinate factor.
