Foundation for Environmental Stewardship (FES) is a youth-led, youth-serving sustainable development organization. FES is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation whose registered charity number is 801430307 RR0001. FES is an accredited organization by the United Nations that has a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. As the final generation that can solve climate change, FES empowers young Canadians to create a more inclusive, equitable, prosperous, and sustainable future. Our flagship program, 3% Project, concluded in 2020 and SDGs Youth Training Canada is one of our signature programs that was now transformed for virtual delivery as the SDGs Launch. This program has mobilized5,900+ students from over 80postsecondary institutions across North America.
Since 2020, FES has been working with Canadian philanthropic players to build a youth-for-youth funding platform to support the youth climate movement. This platform will act as a tool for the youth-led climate movement for financial support and technical assistance. This program is in its start-up phase and will be built over the year as it ramps up for delivery.
Foundation for Environmental Stewardship (FES) is seeking a program Director to play a leading role in the development of our youth-for-youth climate support program. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the program director will primarily be responsible for supporting FES, but more importantly, the youth the organization serves, in performing
research, outreach, and duties as needed in a “start-up” environment. Mainly, the Program Director will be responsible in the development of a funding platform that is accessible, youth-friendly, and in alignment with the current needs of the youth-led climate movement. The Program Director will work closely with the Executive Director to build pathways from “start to finish” (ex. Application, granting, reporting, technical support, administration, etc.).Note, this position is dynamic and exciting –meaning that every day can look different.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development: Work with the Executive Director to build the granting pathway from application to evaluation to ensure that the pathways are accessible to youth.
  • Administration: Set-up, track, and ensure that appropriate financial and operational mechanisms are in place to ensure that FES’ granting process is streamlined and transparent.
  • Fund Development: Provide support to the Executive Director to seek funding and write grants, applications, and reports in pursuit of funding.
  • Outreach: Reach out to youth-led climate organizations to support through FES and consult with.
  • Youth Support: Provide application feedback to candidates and work with the Executive Director to develop capacity-building opportunities for youth.


Essential Qualifications*:

  • Between the ages of 18 to 30 at the start of the job placement.
  • Strong command in English and French, both written and oral.
  • Relevant experience working with and/or for the climate movement in Canada.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field (ie. business, non-profit management, sustainability, etc.)
  • Minimum 1-2year of experience in fundraising and/or granting.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles or other positions with significant responsibility.
  • Demonstrated interest in relevant domains (ie. sustainability, environment, education, youth engagement and action) is considered an asset.
  • Proficient with using word-processing, database and spreadsheet software (most notably Microsoft Office suite, Google Docs and Excel).
  • Experience in report writing and research.
  • Experience with Salesforce is considered an asset.
  • Some weekend work required.
