Outreach & Education Coordinator – 12 Month Contract
Halifax, Nova Scotia

At OERA (the Offshore Energy Research Association), we are helping Atlantic Canada move toward a more sustainable energy future by producing credible and objective data to inform sound energy policies and decisions. Our focus is on coordinating research and projects that will help to decarbonize our region’s economy, mitigating climate change impacts and moving Atlantic Canada toward net-zero emissions by 2050.

We are seeking an Outreach & Education Coordinator – Energy System Modelling. This is a 12-monthcontract position for a recent university or community college graduate.

Our Opportunity:

The energy system in the Atlantic Provinces is undergoing a significant transition towards a low-carbon future. To effectively support this transition while enabling sustainable economic growth, OERA is developing an open-source energy system model for Atlantic Canada. Energy system modelling enables the user to assess alternative scenarios to get to net-zero. This is useful for policymakers, researchers, and industry and NGO representatives to better understand and contribute to possible next steps on the path to net-zero GHG emissions. Our open-source model will promote data-sharing and facilitate more discussion among energy-system stakeholders about how to best achieve the goal of a sustainable and inclusive economy.

This position will lead OERA’s training, outreach and education services to energy system model users in Atlantic Canada. You will contribute directly to the adoption of the model across Atlantic Canada by helping to build a community of users. You will train users within academia, government, industry and NGO’s, and you will provide insight for improvements to the modelling team. If you want to put your enthusiasm and experience in teaching and training towards a low-carbon future, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the design, production, publication, and dissemination of training modules to end users;
  • Planning and providing in-person and online training to model users;
  • Translating and converting relevant content from the energy system model into useable products to reach and share knowledge with a broad range of stakeholders;
  • Providing technical support to model users;
