Energy Project Coordinator

The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing the eight Mi’kmaw
communities of mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaw
communities’ initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM’s
Department of Community Services and Infrastructure is currently looking for a motivated and
knowledgeable candidate to fill the role of Energy Project Coordinator. This position will develop and
oversee the emerging climate change mitigation mandate within the Department of Community Services &

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Community Services and Infrastructure, and reporting to the
Infrastructure Program Manager, the Energy Project Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Low
Carbon Mi’kmaw Communities project. This initiative supports Mi’kmaw communities in their transition
to a low-carbon future through building capacity for communities to pursue clean energy initiatives. Work
will involve community outreach on energy efficiency and renewable energy in order to build awareness
and energy literacy, providing support for communities in pursuing energy initiatives, and organizing skill
development opportunities in the renewable energy sector for community members. The Energy Project
Coordinator will also be responsible for performing other tasks as needed to develop capacity for The CMM
and Mi’kmaw First Nation communities to participate in the energy sector, such as attending meetings,
assisting with project reports and presentations, and drafting new project proposals.

Position Requirements:
 Post-Secondary diploma or certification in a relevant discipline (example: Environmental Science,
Sustainable Energy) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Minimum of one-years experience working in clean energy, sustainability, or a related field.
 Experience working in or with First Nation communities.
 Strong understanding of opportunities and developments in the clean energy field in Nova Scotia.
 Ability to work effectively with other organizations, levels of government, industry and the public.
 Experience delivering environmental or educational programming to a variety of age groups.
 Excellent communication, facilitation and training skills.
 Highly organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines.
 Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, email, and social media.
 Driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel.

Salary/Employment Term:

Anticipated starting salary: $40,000 per year. This is a six-month position with opportunity for renewal.
