Position Summary:

 The Municipality of the County of Inverness is seeking a Municipal Operations Logistics Coordinator for the Fall of 2022. The Municipal Operations Logistics Coordinator will work within the Operations Department to research, map, process outline and provide a logistics plan for all of the Municipality’s solid waste and recycling services. The Coordinator will also develop end-use market options for the various array of Municipal solid waste and recycling streams. Time will be devoted to the identification of waste collection routes via provincial, private and dirt roads. Identification of key community waste collection- points opportunities and population mapping will be essential in constructing an overall logistics plan. The successful applicants will work within a collaborative team of continuous learners and will work in consultation with the ReUse Coordinator and Solid Waste Coordinator/Educator. The Municipal Operations Logistics Coordinator will work on route efficiency for curb side collection and have the opportunity to work both in the field and in the office.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, both oral and written, and will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. They will also be required to develop and present reports and other documents as requested. The candidate will be required to work, collaborate and maintain respectful working relationships with contractors, colleagues, elected officials, residents, proprietors and other internal and external clients and stakeholders.

This role will require the successful candidate to travel within the Municipality and work in various environments. The successful candidate should demonstrate a high level of safety as this role may expose the Municipal Operations Logistics Coordinator to dangerous materials. Training and required safety courses will be provided by the Municipality.


  • Review, document and evaluate solid waste and collection routes.
  • Determine the quantity of houses per collection route.
  • Complete population mapping of collection routes within the County.
  • Identify paved roads and unpaved (dirt) roads.
  • Identify private roads.
  • Identify quantity and location of community bins.
  • Identify community bin opportunities.
  • Identify potential markets and end-use for solid waste and recycling materials.
  • Identify ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) areas.
  • Assist in the development of route planning efficiency.
  • Prepare and submit a formal report of research with recommendations.
  • Aid in the establishment and oversight of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and Municipal policies and procedures.
  • Report all near-misses and incidents to the Manager of Operations, Health & Safety immediately.
  • Submit reports on all incidents and other hazardous conditions discovered.
  • Research, evaluate, and assist ongoing Municipal initiatives and projects related to solid waste and recycling.
  • Other duties as required.


  • Enrolled in a post baccalaureate diploma at Cape Breton University.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word and Excel).
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and have demonstrated teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instruction and maintain records.
  • Proven organizational and time management abilities are considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a Solid Waste/Recycling environment considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with the Municipality of the County of Inverness considered an asset.
  • Valid certification in WHMIS and/or First Aid would be considered an asset.
  • Clean drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
