Marine Atlantic is currently accepting applications for various customer service positions with our shore-based departments located in North Sydney, NS.

The successful candidates will work as Ticket and Reservations Clerks and will receive additional training for some of the following positions based on education and work experience:

  • Senior Administration Tickets & Senior Administration Reservations– responsible for office administration and reservation/ticketing application administration.
  • Tour Commercial Clerk – communicates with and handles reservations for tour groups and commercial companies.
  • Traffic Clerk – communicates with commercial customers, processes dangerous goods documentation and considers restrictions such
    as class, quantity and segregation.
  • Timekeeper – keeps records of daily time worked by employees, ensures vacations are taken as scheduled, calls unassigned employees for work and enters time into computer system.
  • Terminal Assistant – cleans the terminal and ticket booths; clears snow and spreads salt; and assists with baggage handling.

These positions are spare and relief. Candidates can expect to work on an on-call basis.

Additional Areas of Responsibility

What qualifications do I need to be considered for this opportunity?

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency.
  • Ability to deal with the general public in a professional manner displaying excellent customer service skills.
  • Competent typing skills (requirements of 25 wpm to a maximum of 50 wpm) and keyboarding skills.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office.
  • Successful completion of Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) testing may be required for selected positions – administered by Marine Atlantic.
  • Relevant post secondary education preferred for selected positions

Preferred Asset Qualifications for Selected Positions

  • Office Administrative Assistant Diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Experience working in an office or call center environment.
  • Supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Experience working with a computerized ticket/reservation system,

    supply chain/accounting system, and customer payment system.

  • Knowledge of general accounting practices.
  • Sound knowledge of employee scheduling procedures and computerized employee scheduling system.
  • Experience working with union agreements.

Please note: Candidates must successfully pass a typing test (requirements of 25 wpm to a maximum of 50 wpm), keyboarding testing and Microsoft Office testing. Successful completion of TOWES testing may be required for selected positions. These positions are unionized and the successful candidates will become members of the United Steelworkers Union.

Hourly Rate: Rates for positions range between $25.964 to $29.936.
