Indigenous Craft Business Skills Coordinator – Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design

One-year contract position with potential to extend

The Indigenous Craft Business Skills Coordinator will work closely with Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design and the five Mi’kmaw communities in Unama’ki to organize, coordinate and implement business skills programming for Indigenous artists.

Responsibilities

· Identify and build relationships with emerging, existing and established Indigenous craft producers and support the development of their craft businesses;

· Work with Indigenous craft producers to participate in business skills development activities, including developing seminars, presentations, workshops, site visits, missions, etc.;

· Support Indigenous craft producers to increase their innovation and competitive capabilities;

· Work with Indigenous craft producers to increase their capacity for export sales and ability to conduct international business; i.e. trade missions and shows, as well as, increasing their wholesaling capacity of cultural tourism products to retailers;

· Work with Indigenous craft producers to increase their marketing skills, including ecommerce capabilities, branding, packaging, websites, etc.;

· Evaluate and approve financial applications for business skills development activities, i.e. consulting, training, websites, missions, etc.;

· Collect data from Indigenous craft producers in relation to business skills development activities;

· Research and identify new business trends in craft and provide information to Centre staff and Indigenous craft producers;

· Work with partners to facilitate the development and/or delivery of export and business skills, business plans, marketing plans, and/or funding programs in support of Cape Breton Island-Unama’ki craft businesses;

· Network with communities, businesses, economic development professionals, and a wide variety of other organizations;

· Conduct project evaluations;

· Other duties as assigned in support of a successful team, program and organization.

Qualifications

Skills and Requirements:

· Ability to achieve results contributing to the Centre’s effectiveness in delivering its mandate;

· Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and develop contacts and relationships within the sector;

· Comfortable communicating with colleagues and partners, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and presentation skills;

· Strong research, analytical and organizational skills;

· Proficient with current office productivity software i.e.: Microsoft Office suite;

· Self-motivated, confident and able to work under tight deadlines;

· Flexibility in working hours, including some evening and weekend work;

· Access to a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and ability to travel.
