At this time, the Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”) is looking for a Trade Co op Student

A co-op student is required for the Trade & Trade Analytics (Commercial function) to assist with existing cross-departmental projects, marketing and industry research.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Market Analysis: Monitor economic market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify new business opportunities and stay ahead of market changes. Conduct market research and analysis (industry and government trade policy) to assess the demand for containerized cargo and identify potential areas for growth.
  • Financial Analysis: Prepare commercial reports, budgets, and top-line forecasts related to commercial activities. Monitor cargo KPIs, analyze variances, and recommend appropriate actions to achieve financial targets. Communications & Customer Engagement: Customer service with external customers with operational and commercial updates of the port. Help organize customer and stakeholder engagement events such as the Port of Halifax Supply Chain Forum and other in-market promotions.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Execute marketing strategies to promote the port’s cargo business. Collaborating with other HPA departments to create marketing materials and customer pitch decks, participate in industry conferences, and engage in networking
    activities.
  • Revenue Optimization: Analyze and evaluate tariff revenue in cargo and cruise streams and identify opportunities for improvement. Develop and implement programs to manage yield.
  • Other miscellaneous duties include special projects or research assigned as required.

The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and thorough. The student would also be required to have a special interest in quantitative decision making, economics, and market research/analysis. In addition, the student must be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preference will be given to students majoring in business or commerce. Completed 2 co-op work terms can be considered as an asset.

The term of this position will be from September 3, 2024, until the December 20, 2024.

The compensation for this student position will vary depending on program and year of study.

The minimum student rate is $19 per hour. The successful student will be subject to successfully completing and maintaining a Criminal Record Check and must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Pass (RAP).
