FALL 2024 CO-OP/ INTERNSHIP: Marketing & Communications Specialist (Contract)

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is seeking a compassionate team player to fill the role of Marketing and Communications Specialist. This is a 15-week position starting in September 2024, offering 30 hours per week at $18/hour. While you are not required to be a student for this position, we are happy to work with co-op and intern students on fulfilling their program requirements.

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation (CBRHF) is an integral part of health care in Cape Breton, ensuring that critical equipment and services are available to patients in need on our Island. As a registered not-for-profit since 1985, the Foundation has worked in partnership with the community to raise multi-millions to purchase priority equipment, fund facility upgrades, provide patient programming, and more for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will assist the Manager of Marketing and Communications with a wide range of projects and activities, including general communications and marketing support; preparing media releases; coordinating and creating daily social media content; assisting with event promotions; uploading website content; developing content for print materials; administrative and fundraising duties; and other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule daily social media content and engage with the Foundation’s community of followers.
  • Write and curate content for the winter newsletter to donors.
  • Upload content to digital billboards and internal screens using a content management system.
  • Support promotional and communication activities for various events, including Radio Day, the Because You Care Catalogue launch, Hockey Fights Cancer, Festival of the Greens, and more.
  • Develop content for thank you letters, website pages, and other items as needed.
  • Complete various graphic design needs using branded templates in Canva.
  • Support the Manager of Philanthropy with fundraising solicitations as needed.
  • Assist with daily administrative support and other related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or completion of a degree or diploma in the fields of marketing, communications, public relations, or similar. Or a combination of relevant professional experience.
  • Knowledge of and compassion for the importance of not-for-profits in our community.
  • Experience creating content across various social media platforms.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Technically savvy, with the ability to learn and navigate new platforms with ease.
  • Preference will be given to those with previous writing and/or marketing and communications experience, specifically for the purposes of fundraising.
