Title: Operations Co-op Student – Hatchery Construction

Reports To: VP Poultry Operations, P.Eng.

Starting Rate: $19.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 35-40 hours per week

Work Location: Onsite at 713 Belcher Street Port Williams NS

Work Term: September 12, 2022 – December 15, 2022 (start and end dates are flexible and can be negotiated)

 

SUMMARY

Atlantic Poultry Incorporated (API) provides high quality poultry products to customers throughout NB, NS, PEI, and NL. API has evolved to become a significant stakeholder in the Atlantic Canada agriculture industry. We continue to be 100% owned by Atlantic Canadians and our goal is to maintain a strong and locally owned poultry industry.

The Operations Co-op Student will provide support to the API Operations team, including filing, data entry and research functions. Other duties include completing special projects and covering for vacation, which will be assigned as required.

This work term will be unique as construction will be pushing forward and the student will have the opportunity to be heavily involved in the project. This position reports to the VP Poultry Operations and is a licensed engineer.

 

MAJOR DUTIES

· Participate in construction of a new hatchery project, including project management and design experience.

· Data entry and assistance with filing.

· Complete and review various forms of data and the subsequent reporting.

· Assist with report and presentation preparation.

· Cross train with supervisors on farms and in the hatchery in NS.

· Assist in roll-out of updated data collection methods, and Preventative Control Plans for each location.

· Develop SharePoint sites for each operational team.

· Other special projects as assigned – student interest will be considered.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

· Pursuing an Engineering degree

· Confirmation of student’s enrolment in a Co-op Program

· Have a valid Driver’s License and own transportation to and from work

WORK TERM OUTCOMES

· Work with diverse teams, work groups and individuals across the organization to achieve group and organizational goals

· Develop knowledge of poultry operations through involvement in production system integration and monthly meetings

· Select, research and test welfare improvements in various barns

· Develop policies and procedures for all aspects of the operation to standardize operations

PLEASE NOTE – our Head Office is based in rural Port Williams Nova Scotia with no access to public transportation and is not within walking distance to food at lunch time. Our office is approximately one (1) hour from Halifax, one way. Applicants who do not live in the Annapolis Valley are encouraged to apply, however, must demonstrate a clear plan to get to and from work five (5) days a week for their work term.
