Rate of Pay ($): 18.00-19.00/hr Hours per Week: 37.5
Job Description: Assist with the everyday tasks of the Engineering Team who are managing the major infrastructure spending on the Port’s facilities combined with the Federal Government partnership. The successful student will work closely with Engineering, but will also be available to assist the Maintenance, Real Estate and Operations departments.
The responsibilities will be:
• Basic project management and site inspections of ongoing contracts;
• Liaise with Contractors and record on-site conditions;
• Provide technical assistance to the Engineering department in review and analysis of existing infrastructure;
• Review, assessment, and confirmation of project drawings and tender documents;
• Develop basic tender documents and administer contracts;
• Working with the Engineering Team to troubleshoot and develop solutions to ongoing maintenance issues around the Port’s aging infrastructure.
Job Requirements:
• Student of a post secondary program in engineering, preferably civil;
• Have a strong background in general science and the ability to apply this to practical solutions;
• Auto Cad experience is required; • Very safety conscious – must have Class 1, CSA approved safety shoes;
• Must have access to their own vehicle, compensation will be based on mileage for Port use;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Desire to work in a team environment and ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Good organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task;
• Good computer skills;
• Have basic Survey skills, both GPS and Total station unit;
• The ability to maintain, in the strictest confidence, information received concerning confidential matters;
• Previous experience on contracted jobsites and/or marine experience will be considered an asset;
• 8-month internship preferred.
