Caregiver Support Coordinator – Eastern HRM Region

Caregivers Nova Scotia Association (www.CaregiversNS.org) is a non-profit organization
providing information and support to individuals who give unpaid care to family members and
friends. Our administrative office is located in Halifax with Support Coordinators working from
their homes throughout the province. We are recruiting for a Caregiver Support Coordinator who
will serve the Eastern HRM Region which spans from Sheet Harbour through to Cole Harbour.
Preference will be given to candidates that reside in this region. This is a part-time (80%)
permanent position that will begin immediately.

Primary Duties

● Provides information, support, and follow up to caregivers via telephone, email, and
records notes in a confidential database;
● Organizes and facilitates peer support groups;
● Establishes and maintains community partnerships for outreach and networking;
● Organizes special events (eg., Caregiver Appreciation Teas, Caregiver Retreats);
● Hosts information booths at health fairs and wellness events;
● Gives presentations explaining Caregivers Nova Scotia (CNS) programs and services;
● Delivers educational workshops;
● Contributes to a semi-annual newsletter;
● Researches information and resources to assist caregivers and CNS; and,
● Completes quantitative and qualitative monthly statistical reports in a timely manner.

Employment Requirements

● Ability to maintain confidentiality of caregivers while working in a private space at home;
● High level of empathy and compassion with an approachable and friendly personality;
● Knowledge of local community resources;
● Effective oral, written, and public speaking skills;
● Proficient computer skills (email, internet, MS Office suite, Google drive);
● Ability to work independently and as a team member;
● A willingness and ability to travel throughout the region; and,
● On occasion, some evening and weekend work will be required.

A background in peer support or health education is considered an asset.
Lived experience as a family/friend caregiver is also considered an asset.
