BHTM Summer Internship: Cabot Links Turf Technician & Student Turf Technician

As a Turf Technician at Cabot, you will perform work involving the use of large and small equipment, including riding and push mowers, utility and passenger vehicles as well as other maintenance equipment; perform routine manual labour involved in golf course maintenance; and do semi-skilled grounds construction, building and landscape maintenance work.

Work Schedule:

The Turf Technician will be required to work a minimum 40 – 48 hour work week. The position requires the individual to fulfill a posted work schedule based on operational necessities as deemed essential by the Employer and business demands. From time to time as the weather and golf course condition require, overtime shifts may be required. The posted work schedule will be available in advance Bi-weekly. This position is seasonal and available April through December. 

Core Accountabilities:

  • Operate hand mowing equipment such as line trimmers, push and self-propelled walk mowers
  • Operate gasoline, diesel and electric utility vehicles and other maintenance equipment in a safe, non-destructive manner
  • Maintain sand bunkers with hand tools, such as rakes and shovels and back pack blowers
  • Hand water assigned areas of the golf course using hoses and sprinklers
  • Daily debris and garbage collection throughout the golf resort
  • Visually inspecting tools & equipment; report any equipment problems or failures to the Assistant Superintendent, Mechanic and/or Supervisor immediately
  • Report golf course conditions and all disciplinary issues to the Assistant Superintendent
  • Clean, detail and return all equipment and tools to designated areas daily
  • Ensure a safe, clean and productive work environment at all times
  • Execute all duties, task and assignments as instructed by the Assistant Superintendent
  • Participate in all Cabot training programs, assignments & activities
  • Focus on team building behavior to ensure a positive work environment
  • Adhere to the Cabot Employee Reference Handbook; Policies, Rules and Guidelines
  • Other tasks may be assigned by the management and leadership team

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the safe operation of motorized equipment
  • Knowledge of the principals to safely operate gasoline and diesel engines
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate hand blower, trimmers, and other various hand tools and equipment required to perform a task
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to work flexible hours – mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends as required
  • Positive attitude and excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Learn golf terminology and the importance of each playable areas such as green, tees fairway, bunker and understand the game of golf

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to:

  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow and wind
  • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios
  • Ability to spend long hours moving around, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, shoveling and/or raking
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work with and around motorized equipment movement hazards, and misdirected golf balls
