BHTM Summer Internship: Cabot Links Equipment Technician

As an Equipment Technician Assistant at Cabot, you will perform work involving the care of large and small equipment, including riding and push mowers, utility and passenger vehicles, as well as other maintenance equipment. The primary responsibility will be to ensure all mowing units are inspected, adjusted and sharpened properly using Grinding Units.

Work Schedule:

The Equipment Technician Assistant will be required to work a minimum of 40 – 48 hours per week. The position requires the individual to fulfil a posted work schedule based on operational necessities, as deemed essential by Cabot and its business demands. From time to time, as the weather and golf course conditions demand, overtime shifts may be required. The posted work schedule will be available in advance Bi-weekly. The Equipment Technician is seasonal available March through December.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and productive work environment and attention to detail at all times
  • Perform daily mowing unit inspection and operate reel and rotary sharping equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance services and programs as outlined by the Equipment Manager
  • Maintain accurate records and document the equipment repairs, parts, and inventories used
  • Act as an ambassador for Cabot and as a role model for associates
  • Operate all department equipment in a responsible and safe manner at all times
  • Provide mechanical training for associates with regards to golf course maintenance equipment as required
  • Ensure all equipment and buildings are cleaned and inspected daily as per company standards
  • Maintain a pleasant and professional manner at all times when addressing associates, contractors, sales personnel, and/or any guests that may enter the premises
  • Execute all duties, tasks, and assignments as instructed by the Equipment Manager
  • Learn golf terminology and the importance of each playable area such as green, tees fairway, and bunker
  • Adhere to the Cabot Employee Reference Handbook; Policies, Rules, and Guidelines
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Aptitude and demonstrates the ability to safely and efficiently operate the majority of golf course maintenance equipment
  • Knowledge of the principles to safely work with, and around, gasoline and diesel engines
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHIMIS)
  • Demonstrate quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to follow oral and written directions in a timely and efficient manner
  • Able to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including early mornings, nights/weekends, and holidays
  • Positive, can-do attitude, and professional manner and appearance in all situations
  • Previous mechanical experience or transferable skillset – preferred, or training available
  • Experience with the operations of grinding units – preferred, or training available

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to:

  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow and wind
  • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios
  • Ability to spend long hours moving around, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, shovelling and/or raking
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions
  • Visually inspect all work areas, maintenance equipment, and buildings
  • Ability to work with and around motorized equipment movement hazards, and misdirected golf balls
