Position:              Student Intern ( Front Desk/Hospitality)

Reporting To:     Front Desk Supervisor/Project Services Officer

Location:             Canadian Coast Guard College, 1190 Westmount Road, Sydney, NS- (In some circumstances telework may be requested)

Term:                    May – August  (approximately 16 weeks)

 

The Canadian Coast Guard College (CCGC) is a world leader in the field of maritime studies and the national training centre for the Canadian Coast Guard.  A key program is the Canadian Coast Guard Officer Training Program.  This is a four-year training program and is considered one of the best marine training programs in the world, producing both Marine Engineering Officers and Marine Navigation Officers.

The CCGC has a unique opportunity for front desk/hospitality intern, working in a customer facing role representing the college as a front line source of information.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with an interest in hospitality and the behind the scenes action of a thriving college atmosphere.  The successful applicant will work with our front desk team in the daily operations of the college, they will receive all guests both internal and external.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to develop hospitality skills and to also gain an understanding and build experience working within the public sector.

Duties:

  • Customer Service- providing excellent customer service to internal (College Staff and OC) and external guests
  • Serve as a front line source of information for all facility users – answer questions and respond to complaints and suggestions
  • Receive all guests/Clients/ occupants for the college and schedule appropriate rooms
  • Receive and record maintenance requests, complaints, problems related to room allocation
  • Receive, screen and route telephone calls
  • Communicate will all departments of college in regards to requirements
  • Provide clerical support via printer, photocopier, scanner, email
  • Retrieve and sort mail

 

Qualifications

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Students must be enrolled in a Co-op program.
  • Strong Client Service Orientation Skills

 

Experience:

Experience using MS Word, Excel and Power Point

 

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the Canadian Coast Guard College

 

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate verbally
  • Ability to communicate in writing (cover letter will be used to assess this qualification)

Assets:

  • Previous Government work experience
  • Ability to communicate in French would be an asset.
