BHTM Summer 2020 Internship, Keltic Lodge, Ingonish Cape Breton: BARTENDER

Position Summary: The Bartender is required to mix and serve beverages, according to established company standards and local laws, to guests

Accountabilities: The Bartender is responsible for fulfilling the beverage needs of guests in a timely and polite manner.  The Bartender is also accountable for liquor issued to him/her, and for receiving payment for drinks

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience:

  • ServSafe Certificate, TIPS Certificate helpful
  • High School diploma or equivalent certificate required
  • Previous bartending experience preferred

Tools & Equipment:

  • Calculator, computer, telephone, two way radio
  • Credit card authorization machine, cash register
  • CO2 Systems, keg tap systems, blender, wine opener, coffee machine, 2 way radio, carts, measuring cups, glass wear, knives & cutting boards

Work Environment:

  • Under variable temperature conditions
  • Under variable noise levels
  • Indoors / outdoors
  • Around chemicals

Physical Requirements:

Other Abilities, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of F&B procedures and serving standards
  • Must have knowledge of local liquor laws
  • Knowledge of wines helpful

Duties & Functions


  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working
  • Prepare bar fruit and garnish
  • Proper rotation of juices
  • Check soda tanks to ensure that they are full and attached properly to the bar
  • Count liquor for each party
  • Stock and clean glassware for bar
  • Prepare and serve drinks to guests in a courteous and friendly manner in accordance with hotel standards
  • Collect payments from guests (when necessary)
  • Clean bar and dispose of or store unused fruit and garnishes
  • Open multiple wine bottles for dinner service
  • Prepare liquor room for next day
  • Comply with and enforce all local liquor laws
  • Read and comprehend BEO’s
  • Up-selling techniques
  • Able to sell hotel and have knowledge of all available amenities
  • Maintain work ethics and be accountable
  • Complete set-up and tear down of bar
  • Proper execution of cash bar procedures
  • Responsible for safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of service areas
  • Assist with loss prevention programs among service employees
  • Keep immediate supervisors fully informed of all challenges or matters requiring his/her attention 

Keltic Lodge at the Highlands functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day from mid May to mid October.
