The first Advisory Council meeting of the Crawford Chair for the Unama’ki Communities was held this week. A great representation from the five First Nation Communities in Unama’ki, government and Unama’ki College. Elizabeth Cremo, Director of Education of the Eskasoni School Board was nominated as Chair of the Council and Darren Googoo, Director of Education, Membertou was nominated to represent Unama’ki on the national advisory council for the Chair.
Five of our six Aboriginal student interns were able to join the meeting which was a wonderful first day on the summer job. Carl from BC, Vernon and Shawna from Ontario and Tamara and Pamela from NS bring broad and interesting views on land management, treaty rights, Canadian law and economic development to the table.
It will surely be an interesting time.
