CBU ALUMNI AWARDS

The Cape Breton University Alumni Association (CBUAA) presents its Alumni Awards annually to deserving graduates and friends of the university who are making extraordinary contributions to their profession, field of study, volunteer organization, community (local or global), CBU or CBUAA.

 

Nominations close on July 26th, 2019

Nominations All members of the Cape Breton University Alumni Association, students, faculty and staff of the university, and the wider community (local and international) may nominate a candidate. While previous recipients of this Award are ineligible for re-nomination, re-nominations of previous candidates are welcome.
Selection Graduates of all of CBU’s predecessor institutions are eligible to receive the CBU Alumni Awards. The predecessor institutions include Xavier Junior College, Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology, College of Cape Breton and the University College of Cape Breton.

Candidates are considered annually by the CBU Alumni Association’s Awards & Nomination Committee, whose recommendations are ratified by the Alumni Association Board of Directors. All nominations submitted will be carried over for consideration for one award’s year.

Timeline Consideration will take place following Spring Convocation, and this Award will be presented during an annual event to celebrate the recipients.

 


AWARD CATEGORIES

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Recognizes graduates of Cape Breton University 35 years of age or under who are making extraordinary contributions to their field of endeavour.

To be eligible, the nominee for the Outstanding Young Alumni Award must:

  • Have graduated from Cape Breton University in a recognized degree, diploma or certificate program;
  • Be under the age of 35 at the time of the awards ceremony;
  • Be recognized as an emerging leader in their field of endeavour;
  • Have made an outstanding contribution to their profession, field of study, volunteer organization, community (local or global), Cape Breton University or Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Set an example for future young alumni to follow.

Selection candidates are considered annually by the Cape Breton University Alumni Association’s Awards & Nomination Committee.

International Alumni Award

Recognizes an international student graduate of Cape Breton University that has made exceptional accomplishments in their field of endeavour.

To be eligible, the nominee for the International Alumni Award must:

  • Have graduated from Cape Breton University (or its predecessor institutions) in a recognized degree, diploma or certificate program;
  • Have been a citizen of a country other than Canada at the time they enrolled at Cape Breton University;
  • Be recognized as having made exceptional accomplishments in their field of endeavour;
  • Have made an outstanding contribution to their profession, field of study, volunteer organization, community (local or global), Cape Breton University (and its predecessor institutions) or Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Set an example for future international student alumni to follow.

Selection candidates are considered annually by the Cape Breton University Alumni Association’s Awards & Nomination Committee.

Darrell Flynn Volunteer Award

Recognizes a graduate who has shown outstanding voluntary service to Cape Breton University and/or the Cape Breton University Alumni Association.

To be eligible, the nominee for the Volunteer Award must:

  • Have graduated from Cape Breton University (or its predecessor institutions) in a recognized degree, diploma or certificate program;
  • Be a current or past volunteer with the Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Have made a significant, peer-recognized contribution as an alumni volunteer to further engage members and foster lifelong association with Cape Breton University and the Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Strengthen alumni pride and affinity to Cape Breton University and the Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Demonstrate commitment to the values and goals of Cape Breton University and the Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Set an example for future alumni to follow.

Selection candidates are considered annually by the Cape Breton University Alumni Association’s Awards & Nomination Committee.

Community Service Award

Recognizes a graduate of Cape Breton University who has made an outstanding contribution to their community.

To be eligible, the nominee for the Community Service Award must:

  • Have graduated from Cape Breton University (or its predecessor institutions) in a recognized degree, diploma or certificate program;
  • Contribute extraordinary community or humanitarian service that has made a difference to the well-being of others and/or their community (local or global);
  • Perform this duty as a professional or volunteer;
  • Set an example for future alumni to follow.

Selection candidates are considered annually by the Cape Breton University Alumni Association’s Awards & Nomination Committee.

Friend of Cape Breton University Award

Recognizes a person, group, or enterprise that has made a significant contribution to Cape Breton University.

To be eligible, the nominee for the Friend of Cape Breton University Award must:

  • Be a person, group or enterprise that demonstrates a commitment to Cape Breton University and Cape Breton University Alumni Association values and goals;
  • Show exceptional dedication and support to Cape Breton University and/or Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Contributes to the enhancement of Cape Breton University as a leader within the field of education and the greater community;
  • Strengthen community pride and affinity to Cape Breton University and Cape Breton University Alumni Association.

*Nominee does not have to be a graduate of Cape Breton University*

Selection candidates are considered annually by the Cape Breton University Alumni Association’s Awards & Nomination Committee.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Recognizes a graduate of Cape Breton University for their extraordinary contribution and achievement in their field of endeavour.

To be eligible, the nominee for the Lifetime Achievement Award must:

  • Have graduated from Cape Breton University (or its predecessor institutions) in a recognized degree, diploma or certificate program;
  • Have made extraordinary contribution in and achievement in their field of endeavour;
  • Be recognized within their community or field as an outstanding leader;
  • Demonstrate commitment to the values and goals of Cape Breton University and the Cape Breton University Alumni Association;
  • Inspire Cape Breton University alumni, faculty, staff and students.
