Sheldon MacKenzie

As the Principle of Breton Wealth Management, a financial advising company that represents London Life Insurance Company and a range of other financial companies, Sheldon MacKenzie is busy to say the least. But despite having a hectic work life, he still finds time to get involved in the community and is a huge supporter of Cape Breton University and the CBU Alumni Association. Sheldon says that keeping involved with the Alumni Association, “is like being part of a very large family.”

Sheldon graduated from CBU with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1988. When asked what his most memorable moment is from his time at CBU, Sheldon says it is, “When the CAPERS Men’s Hockey team beat Acadia in overtime at the Canada Games Complex during the 1993 play-offs. The rink was packed and Elvis (impersonator) sang the national Anthem. The CAPERS were heavy underdogs and ended up being the only team in the country to beat Acadia in the play-offs that year. The Axemen went on to beat the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 12 -1 on national television in the finals.”

Cape Breton University is fortunate to have alumni, like Sheldon, stay connected and continue to contribute to the University. When asked how he feels about CBU, Sheldon says, “CBU is a huge employer, and provides the people of this community with many opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have.”
