Chemistry is the science of change that affects virtually all other scientific disciplines and is essential to many new technological developments. Chemistry is a physical science, which puts importance on mathematics and physics. Thus, a student planning a career in chemistry is advised that performance in these disciplines should be strong.
Please see the Department Chair for program details, department research activities and student employment opportunities.
Descriptions of courses offered by the chemistry department can be found on the Chemistry Courses page
Certificate in Industrial Chemistry
CBU offers a Certificate in Industrial Chemistry. The 27-credit certificate is an option while studying toward your degree.
Currently, CBU does not offer a graduate program in Chemistry. However, the possibility exists for graduate studies through joint supervision of students attending other universities. Several faculty are interested in hosting graduate students at Cape Breton University and potential students are encouraged to browse the faculty profiles on this website. Faculty should be contacted directly about the possibility of graduate studies in their laboratory.
Cape Breton University will apply a lab policy to all courses that have a practical laboratory component. A practical laboratory component is distinct from the lecture and is not a tutorial based component such as is often the case for mathematics laboratories. The courses for which this policy applies are found in the Academic Calendar.
