Breanne MacDonald was inspired to become a teacher while she was still a student herself. During her grade 12 year, she had a teacher so engaging that he was able to capture the attention of everyone in the room. “He manifested in everything he said and did that the material was not a strange addition to life, but a part of it,” says Breanne. “That is one of the greatest lessons of my life. He taught with such passion that even the less interested students were engaged in what he was teaching. He made me want to teach like that.”

To become the teacher she wanted to be, Breanne enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at Cape Breton University. “I learned so much from not only the professors, but the community of learners that were taking the program alongside me,” says Breanne. “The sense of community that the program provides was a constant motivation.”

Now, teaching grade primary full time at Centre Scolaire Étoile de l’Acadie with the Conseil scolaire Acadien Provincial, Breanne is thrilled with her career choice, and says, I am very excited that I have been given the opportunity to have my own classroom and to be able to explore the profession every single day. I feel extremely fortunate and I know that hard work does pay off! I’m very excited to see where my career will take me.”

As for those considering studying Education at CBU, Breanne says, “Teaching is a fabulous career choice. There is never a dull moment, it’s engaging and the students will inspire you every day. If you are considering education at CBU, make the choice and apply today.”
