The First Year Advising Centre will open on Monday May 1 to begin advising for the Fall 2017 academic year. Online appointment bookings are now available. Please follow the instructions below to book your appointment.

I am a…

First-year nursing student

First-year nursing students in the BScN (3 year) Accelerated program will now be advised in the First-Year Advising Centre. Please book your appointment with us online through the link below.

First-year nursing students in the BScN (2 year) Advanced Standing program will be advised by faculty in the nursing department. Please call (902) 563-1944 for more information.

First-year public health student

If you’re a first-year public health student, contact the School of Public Health at (902) 563-1368 to set up your academic advising appointment with a public health faculty member.

New CBU student with transfer credits

If you’re new to CBU, but you have previous university experience, you’ll need to start by submitting a Transfer Credit Assessment Application and your application fee to the Registrar’s Office.

Once you receive email notification that your transfer credits have been assessed, you can book your academic advising appointment with a faculty member in your school/department.

New CBU student without transfer credits

As a first-year university student coming straight from high school, you will meet with an academic advisor to:

  • discuss your program
  • choose your courses
  • learn how to create your course schedule

You will also meet with an academic success coach to discuss how to achieve success as you transition into your first year of university studies.

Preparing for your appointment

The time you spend with your advisor is valuable, but only if you take the time to prepare. You’ll have about an hour to chat, so make the most of it. We recommend you:

  • refer to the CBU Academic Calendar and check out your program’s required courses. You should also identify any courses you’re interested in in advance.
  • prepare a list of questions to ask the advising team, including any questions you might have about your transition from high school to university.
