Academic Advising at CBU
At Cape Breton University, we do our best to give you every chance at success. Meeting with a member of our advising team is a big part of that effort—so that’s why we require that all new students meet with us before registering for courses.
Working with an academic advisor gives you the opportunity to:
- select your courses with the help of an advisor
- create your class schedule
- set yourself up for success
The advising process
If you are a new student to Cape Breton University, you’ll go through a three-step advising process:
Step 1: Meet with an academic advisor
This is when you’ll select your courses and review your program requirements.
Step 2: Meet with your academic success coach
This step gives you a chance to take a close look at your expectations, address any areas of concern, discuss available supports, and learn more about how to prepare to start in September.
Step 3: Meet with a student employee at the First-Year Advising Centre
In this final step, you’ll have the opportunity to set up your online access and create your class schedule.
