Job/Project Description: Transcriber & Conference Coordinator

The successful applicant will transcribe ethnographic interviews about music and dance, and also assist with planning and implementing a one-day symposium on the topic of minority language learning, to be held in April 2016.

Responsibilities

Tasks:
The successful applicant will be assigned tasks including (but not limited to):

  • transcribing interviews
  • developing a conference project plan, to include a budget and timeline
  • identifying relevant content and potential presenters
  • soliciting potential presenters (both academic and community-based)
  • planning the symposium schedule
  • managing all conference tasks, including communications, promotions, registration, room bookings, and catering

The successful applicant will also be asked to work prior to and at the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, Oct 13-17, 2015, in order to become familiar with academic conferences and the tasks involved.

 

Student Qualifications:

Upper year undergraduate students are preferred. However, strong typing skills are required (i.e., no two-finger typing). The successful applicant preferably has experience with event management/coordination. The successful applicant will be able to work independently, be creative, and have a strong work ethic.

End Date:  Mid-April

Hours:  All positions are part time, hours TBD
