CBU Work Study Bursary Program – Student Library Assistant – Job Number 2015F020

Requirements

Job/Project Description: CBU Library will be conducting planned shifting to redistribute space within the Library collection. Shifting is a process in which space in a collection is reallocated amongst the shelves in order to shelve the books more evenly in the collection. Shifting is labor intensive but is critical to the efficiency and effectiveness of CBU Library. This job will be to assist with shifting, shelving and shelf reading within these sections.

Responsibilities

Tasks:

Shelve book trucks and shelf-read the stacks while shelving to ensure areas are in order and correct shelving errors.  Assist in some physical labor projects that call for the moving of furniture, shelving parts, other heavy items, etc. Identify items that need mending, rebinding or new call number labels and bring to the attention of a supervisor. Identify end panel labels that need to be replaced and assist in carrying out shifting projects.

Responsibilities:
Project a positive attitude to the public and employees of Cape Breton University.

Work with CBU Library staff to assist with the planning of shifting projects.

Performs other tasks as needed

 

Student Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work independently or with a team. Students must be able to maneuver book trucks and perform a tasks such as lifting, reaching, grasping, stepping up and down, and kneeling. Student should be reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions from supervisors; and have strong oral and written communication skills. Training of specific job duties will be provided by library staff.

Hours:  All positions are part time, hours TBD
