We are excited to offer a student placement in our Darlington Conventional Safety Department, which is located in Bowmanville, Ontario, approximately 75 kilometres East from Toronto, Ontario. Qualifications:

  • You must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • We are searching for an enthusiastic Health and Safety, Engineering or Applied Sciences student who has completed a minimum of 2 year(s) and will be returning to university or college (full time) upon completion of this work term or requires one final work term to graduate.
  • This placement may involve some travel.  A valid “G2” driver’s license is required.  Ready access to a vehicle would be an asset.

Preference may be given to the candidate who has the following skills and qualification:

  • Knowledge of and experience with workplace hazardous materials/chemicals and industrial hygiene principles
  • A sound understanding of the practical application of rules and procedures
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with a variety of Windows and Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Access

Responsibilities

Duties:

As the successful candidate, you may have the opportunity to assist in a variety of work assignments which may include:

  • Participating as a member of our health and safety team, working with experienced professionals supporting health and safety programs with a focus on hazardous materials management
  • Performing Hazardous Materials Assessments
  • Monitoring for hazardous materials and advising on the safe handling of materials using sound industrial hygiene practices
  • Reviewing and recommending changes to ensure that safe work practices are employed to minimize hazardous exposures
  • Creating Hazard Information Sheets (HIS) associated with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) / Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Providing support and coaching to clients
  • Other assignments may include, but are not limited to, developing and maintaining training aids, delivering presentations at department and/or safety meetings and supporting programmatic self assessments
