The Spirit of Entrepreneurship is alive and well at Cape Breton University's Small Business Development Centre. Operating under the auspices of the Shannon School of Business, the Centre plays an important role in the sustained economic growth of Cape Breton Island through the provision of counselling and training for new and existing entrepreneurs.

The Centre has established a mandate to foster entrepreneurial activity with a focus on new business start-ups and business tools directed at retention and growth of existing businesses. Centre staff provide support, guidance, direction and leadership to those who wish to access and develop these all-important skill sets.

CBU Small Business Development Centre Hosts Youth Social Enterprise Boot Camp

Cape Breton University’s Small Business Development Centre is challenging 50 young Cape Bretoners to create real entrepreneurial solutions to social, environmental or economic issues by participating in theYouth Social Enterprise Boot Camp. Through an intensive three-day workshop, held at CBU on March 30-April 1, participants will have the opportunity to identify an issue in their community and acquire the skills and knowledge to find and implement a promising entrepreneurial solution.

Startup Canada Hits Cape Breton

Cape Breton University’s Small Business Development Centre is hosting a Startup Canada Town Hall session on Thursday, March 22 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in CBU’s Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment. The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to express ideas that will help forward the entrepreneurial revolution in Cape Breton. Startup Canadais Canada’s first-ever grassroots, entrepreneur-led, national entrepreneurship movement.

Entrepreneurs in Action

The Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) at Cape Breton University (CBU) has businesses talking about a video project that will provide entrepreneurs across the Island and beyond with information critical to their businesses success. The SBDC is launching Entrepreneurs in Action, a series of six information videos focused on business skills that will provide small business owners with tools needed to obtain business success. Each video is twenty minutes in length and focuses on the following six topics: marketing, finance, strategy, accounting, operations and human resources.
