CBU Honours Athletes at the 41st Annual Athletic Awards Banquet

Cape Breton University honoured their student athletes at the 41st Annual Athletic Awards Banquet which was held at Centre 200 in Sydney.

Soccer stars Karolyne Blain and Justin Maheu were recognized as CBU Female and Male Athletes of the Year for their accomplishments during the 2014-2015 season.

Blain, a fourth-year BSc student from Sudbury, ON electrified AUS fans this past fall, scoring 16 goals in 13 games to claim the AUS scoring title and establish a new CBU (and unofficial AUS) single-season scoring record.

The 2011 AUS Rookie of the Year, Blain has scored 43 times in 44 games in her career and was named AUS Most Valuable Player and CIS First Team All-Canadian for the second consecutive year.

Also for the second consecutive year, Blain was also recognized with the CBU President's Award given to the CBU student-athlete with the top academic performance and as MVP of the women's soccer team.

Adding to her honours on the night, Blain became the first CBU student-athlete to receive the James Bayer Memorial Scholarship in the 29 year history of the award.

Maheu, a second-year student-athlete from Ottawa, ON also earned AUS Most Valuable Player honours this past season after winning the AUS scoring title with 15 goals in 12 games and leading the CAPERS to the AUS finals.
