The Sustainable Happiness Initiative Grows

Dr. Catherine O’Brien, associate professor of Education, will serve as keynote speaker at Dawson College as they launch the Sustainable Happiness initiative on April 23, 2014. The event will introduce guests to a new pilot certificate course in Sustainable Happiness, to be offered at Dawson College in May, through a partnership with Dawson College, CCS Community Services and the Earthvalues Institute.

Dr.  O’Brien developed  the Sustainable Happiness concept and has found that as her students discover that their happiness and well-being are intertwined with the happiness and well-being of others and the natural environment, they readily choose to shift towards healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

“Sustainable happiness is happiness that contributes to individual, community and/global well-being without exploiting other people, the environment or future generations, “says Dr. Catherine O’Brien.

Dr. O’Brien’s Sustainable Happiness course at CBU is the first of its kind and has been taught at CBU since 2009.
