On Wednesday, March 13, third-year Cape Breton University Bachelor of Business Administration student, Patricia McCann, was awarded a 2013 Frank H. Sobey Award for Excellence in Business Studies in the amount of $15,000. The award recipients were chosen from 30 finalists based on academic standing, entrepreneurial interest, extracurricular and community activities, and career aspirations.
McCann is recognized amongst her peers for her work with Enactus, involvement in student government, excellence in athletics, passion for helping her community and for always making time for her family.
On campus, she is the Cape Breton University Students’ Union (CBUSU) tutor coordinator, a tour guide for the Shannon School of Business and President of the Cape Breton University Honours Society. In her community, McCann volunteers with the United Way of Cape Breton, Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia, and Bowl for Kids Sake with Big Brothers Big Sisters in addition to a variety of fundraising initiatives.
McCann plans to obtain an MBA and a professional accounting designation, with career aspirations of being a senior financial or accounting executive in Atlantic Canada.
Students enrolled full-time in a business program at an Atlantic Canadian University are eligible to be nominated by for an award. Candidates must be put forth by the Dean of Business.
