Education Department Hosts Young Visual Artists

On Thursday evening , April 19, 48 young visual artists, their parents and teachers, gathered in Art Gallery II for an exhibition and celebration.  The competition, sponsored by the CBU Education Department, asked young artists from P -12 to respond to the Earth Day inspired theme: Living and Learning for a Healthy World.

Almost a hundred students submitted a variety of inspired visual pieces in a different visual and mixed media.  The works were adjudicated by Laura Schneider and Graham Iddon of the CBU Art Gallery and Dr. Rod Nicholls, Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences.  Twelve pieces were chosen and will be professionally framed and on permanent display in the newly renovated Education Department office space.

In her remarks to the students and parents, Ms. Schneider commented on the creativity displayed by the many visual interpretations of the theme and encouraged the young artists to continue to find ways to express themselves through the visual arts.

The organizers of the event, Patrick Howard and Mindy Carter recognize the support of the Education Department, Lesley Ann Andrews, the Fine Arts Consultant with the local school board, YEA! (Youth for Environmental Awareness) and George MacLeod of the CBU Bookstore for contributing to a very special evening.
