Professor David Rae is a leader in developing new thinking and practice on entrepreneurship and learning. In January 2015, he scored double success with the publication of not one, but two new books on the topic within a month.
His first book, Opportunity-Centred Entrepreneurship, is aimed to help students and other learners to develop their entrepreneurial abilities by working on opportunities. The first edition of the book, published in 2007, has been adopted internationally and the new version brings it bang up to date.
Coincidentally, the second book, a collection of research chapters on the topic of entrepreneurial learning which was co-edited with Professor Catherine Wang from Royal Holloway University of London, UK, has also been the product of several years’ work, and was published this month.
“I had been working on both of these book projects for about 3 years and it is a happy coincidence that they have been published so close together. I may write another book in the future but I do not expect this to happen again. I was actually giving a keynote address to the KEEN conference for entrepreneurship in engineering in Tempe, Arizona a few weeks ago when the first package of books arrived on the stage. That was a proud moment. Today they are on sale in the bookstore at CBU. I included a case study of Membertou in this book after staying there last year and being so impressed by the community entrepreneurship.,” says Rae.
He adds, “When the second book arrives in Canada, we’ll organize an event to launch it which will be open to everyone in the entrepreneurial community in Cape Breton. I am a practical author, so my aim is always that people find something they can use from my work.”
