In the spirit of the season, CBU’s on-campus dining providers, Chartwells, have collected funds in name of the CBU Food Bank.
Chartwells provides food services throughout CBU’s campus and residence dining hall. For the past while, instead of taking tips, front-end staff have been collecting monetary donations to go toward Chartwells’ Nourish program.
“Chartwells and our parent company, Compass Group Canada support Food Banks Canada and other initiatives to fight food insecurity,” says Cheryl Kelly, Chartwells Director at CBU. “At CBU we wanted to give back to our campus and local community so we decided to donate the funds we collect to the CBU food bank.”
Cheryl says the team also had “casual day” one day per week where staff members could wear jeans to work, provided they made a donation to this program.
Through their efforts, Chartwells was able to collect enough money to purchase toiletries, non perishable products such as pasta, sauces, cereal, beverages, and more, as well as some fresh produce.
Students wishing to utilize the food bank may access it through CBU’s Chaplaincy.
