CBU’s Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment Recognized with Innovation Award

On Monday, October 25, Cape Breton University’s Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment (CSEE) was honoured with the Innovation Award (presented by Innovacorp) during the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce 21st Annual Excellence in Business Awards held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre in Sydney, N.S.

“We were very pleased to receive the award,” says Ross McCurdy, Chief Operating Officer, CSEE. “Innovation is about positive change with a goal to make someone or something better. We appreciate the Chamber recognizing the CSEE in this regard and we will continue to work toward innovative, sustainable solutions to improve our Cape Breton community.”

Construction of the $20 million environmental research facility is well underway, and expected to open in spring 2011. To date, the structural steel, and all foundations are complete. The interior architectural finishes and lab millwork are nearing completion, and work on exterior studding and roofing has begun.

The Centre will house five research chairs specializing in Clean Energy from Coal, Green Energy, Mine Water Management, Remediation Technologies and Integrative Science.

Sixteen awards were presented during the ceremony. Other finalists in the Innovation Award category included Billdidit, Marcato Digital Solutions, and Two Crows Farm and Recreation.
