CBU student gains insight into EnTOURpreneurship

Eleanor Sidley, a third-year Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management (BTHM) student, is always looking for an opportunity to get involved. And that’s exactly what she will be doing August 13-15th. Eleanor was chosen among 50 other young adults across Canada to attend the Canadian EnTOURpreneurship Experience. She will have the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship in the tourism sector, meet the Honourable Minster of Small Business and Tourism, Ms.Bardish Chagger, and learn from tourism operators in the top tourism-related service sectors of Canada.

After receiving an email about the EnTOURpreneurship Experience Eleanor knew she needed to attend. “I have been studying tourism for five years, with my diploma in Tourism and Travel and then through the Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management degree at Cape Breton University. Having the chance to attend the Canadian EnTOURpreneurship Experience would allow me to solidify my passion for tourism and my career path,” says Eleanor.

Workshops like the Canadian EnTOURpreneurship Experience are great opportunities for young adults to gain mentorship from professionals in the industry. “Being able to learn from people’s experiences while being guided by the Minister of Small Business and Tourism to help us hone our ideas and turn them into workable business ideas is an amazing experience.” says Eleanor.

“The conference fit well with my field of study and it is a great opportunity for me to network with other students pursing a career in tourism,” says Eleanor, “I realize by building these relationships now it can turn into major networking opportunities later in life once I begin my career.” The value of an experience like this for Eleanor is truly priceless.

“Over the past couple years, I have really started to push myself to pursue opportunities that I typically wouldn’t and it has lead me to so many great opportunities, such as becoming the President and CEO of the Cape Breton University Students’ Union,” says Eleanor, “and I will never stop myself from an amazing opportunity by not taking a chance.”
