Internationalization on Campus
Our Sydney, Nova Scotia campus is a catalyst for dialogue and research on a variety of topics of global interest. This is demonstrated by visiting faculty and professionals such as award winning Indian journalist, P. Sainath who shared his thoughts on the corporatization of media and the importance of citizen journalism, and at our Centre for International Studies’ Human Security Forum. In the fall of 2010, we welcomed a book launch, presentation and exhibit by Gary Samson, chair of the Photography Department at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, which was greeted warmly by the university and wider local community.
Cape Breton University is contributing to communities across the globe as well - whether it is Dr. Terry Gibbs and Garry Leech conducting social justice research in Columbia, Dr. Jacquelyn Scott’s economic development initiatives in Cuba, or Dr. Edwin MacLellan, Visiting Fellow of the Institute for African Development, at Cornell University, who is currently manager of a Diarrhea and Malaria in Children project with Copperbelt University and Chianama College of Health Sciences in Zambia - many of our faculty have international academic links and experience.
