Donor Recognition

Cape Breton University appreciates and acknowledges the relationships that arise when donors express their confidence in CBU through giving a gift. There are many ways in which CBU honours its patrons from donor recognition societies, created specifically for each respective campaign, to inclusion on the donor recognition wall.

One of the highlights of the Future First campaign’s closing celebration was the unveiling of the design for a donor recognition wall.

Donor Wall Unveil

President John Harker and Future First Chair, Joe Shannon unveil the donor recognition. The wall was constructed of marble from Cape Breton’s own MacLeod Resources & Canada’s Marble Company.

A gift of music, culture and history was celebrated this afternoon, as Cape Breton University (CBU) honoured the generous donation to be made by Denis Ryan, a founding member of the musical group, Ryan’s Fancy. This priceless gift is from Ryan’s personal archives and shares the story of the internationally acclaimed Celtic music group, Ryan’s Fancy and some of his personal materials. The gift, which is being received in multi-media format, will be housed at CBU’s Beaton Institute.

Libraries, literature and music were centre stage as Cape Breton University, joined by award-winning authors, Frank Macdonald, Alistair and Alexander MacLeod and members of the Barra MacNeils, unveiled $2 million worth ofrenovations to the campus library.

Part of CBU’s Builder of Champions Celebration

As part of the Builder of Champions celebration, several events are planned to honour hockey great and Cape Breton native, Al MacNeil. One event that is destined to capture community interest is the Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation Hockey Day in Cape Breton,tobehosted atCBU’s Canada Games Complex on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family event will highlight the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Interactive Tour Display, which will be coming to Cape Breton for the first time, allowing hockey fans, young and old, to experience an array of interactive games, memorabilia and NHL trophies. This event, which has been financially supported by ECBC, is a fitting finale to a spectacular celebration.
