The CBU Shannon School of Business Cornerstone Campaign

The Cornerstone Campaign is a $12 million campaign focused on infrastructure investment and innovative research for the Shannon School of Business (SSOB). The campaign, being chaired by School of Business namesake, Mr. Joseph Shannon, will see the expansion of academic business offerings, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as consolidate the School’s physical surroundings to fully support its role as a valued presence both internally and externally.

A state-of-the-art business building will be constructed to increase student capacity, to accommodate the needs of current learners as well as future generations of business students. The campaign will also include the establishment of two Chairs – The Purdy Crawford Chair in Aboriginal Business Studies and the George Unsworth Chair in Accounting.

Over the past few months, Mr. Shannon has begun to raise funds toward the $12 million project - $8 million for the Shannon School of Business building and $4 million for the Purdy Crawford Chair in Aboriginal Business Studies. To date, $9.6 million has been raised through private and government sector commitments, including a $2 million donation from the Shannon Family, which is the single largest donation ever received by the University.

    SSOB Building features:
  • 25,000 square feet of learning space
  • This prominent building will increase capacity by 500 seats
  • It will include case study rooms, enhanced classrooms, boardrooms, modern technology, a student lounge and faculty offices

As a recruitment tool, the Shannon School of Business Building is a demonstration of the University’s ongoing commitment to the learning needs of its students.

Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment (CSEE)

The two biggest challenges of our generation are successfully managing industrial pollution and finding sustainable sources of clean energy.

At CBU, the vision is to create a cutting-edge and fully green facility that will act as a nexus point, attracting the finest researchers and experts from around the world to Sydney, Nova Scotia.

In June 2008, during a luncheon with Annette Verschuren, the CSEE campaign was launched. Annette Verschuren announced, to the sold out audience, that she will be chairing the campaign including pledging $500,000.
